When a perched darner cooperates.
During one of my few visits to Wetzel State Recreation Area in Macomb County on September 20th, I was fortunate to find a perched Mottled Darner (Aeshna clepsydra). This male allowed me to photograph it from both sides. Here are a few of the images:

Nannothemis is an ecologist, whose research focus is on the importance and function of urban ecosystems.
Stylurus is the husband of Nannothemis. He is an engineer, talented birder, keen naturalist, and pretty good with an insect net when his "old soccer injuries" aren't bothering him.

Oh and how rarely they do perch and cooperate! Great find, beautiful pics. I've yet to capture an image of this species, I run myself ragged trying..(almost fell in the pond once too!) Persistence will eventually pay off..I say!
It definitely takes time and luck. ;^)
